Prevalence of Hemoglobinopathy in Adult Population at KAMC, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Rationale and Objectives: Hemoglobinopathies are among the most commonly inherited genetic disorders in humans considered as a major public health problem Saudi Arabia. The prevalence of hemoglobinopathies is severe threat to society future generations if assessment pre-marriage cohorts not monitored. purpose this study analyze type relation age, gender mutations assess cohort. Materials Methods: This retrospective including sample 7054 patients who older than 14 years (i.e. age ≥ years) were diagnosed with hemoglobinopathies. includes adults both genders (male female) from screening at King Abdul- Aziz Medical City, Ministry National Guard – affairs, Riyadh, Patients analyzed over period 4 i.e. 2013 o 2017. Results: comparative analysis patient’s clinical characteristics recorded patient sample, 3822 (54.2%) male while 3232 (45.8%) females. results proposed showed that Arabia has high rate Sickle Cell Anemia (30.7%) β-thalassemia (12.8%). sickle cell trait was repeated hemoglobinopathy research. Conclusion: According cohort Β-thalassemia SCA common higher prevalence. In countries hemoglobinopathies, premarital helpful for identification prevention high-risk marriage challenges. There need preventive measures comprehensive program reference management, diagnosis diseases
